NDMA Found in Zantac®

Ranitidine medications, including Zantac®, have been found to contain unsafe levels of a dangerous chemical called N-Nitrosodimethylamine, or NDMA.

Ongoing investigations by the FDA have discovered that levels of the cancer-causing substance can increase over time due to body temperature once ingested or being stored in higher-than-normal temperatures.

NDMA: A Known Carcinogen

The Centers for Disease Control has also linked NDMA ingestion to liver and lung diseases, including cancer, which typically occur through long-term dosage. The permissible daily intake of NDMA, according to the FDA, is just 96 nanograms. Levels of NDMA in Zantac® have been found to be anywhere between 3,000 and 26,000 times this amount.

Complications and Symptoms Resulting From Zantac® Use

Regular use of Zantac® has been linked to an increased risk of cancer due to overexposure to NDMA. In addition to the cancer risk, NDMA exposure can also cause:

  • Dizziness
  • Severe stomach cramping
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Jaundice
  • Severe headaches
  • Enlarged liver
  • Diarrhea

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms after taking Zantac®, seek medical attention immediately.

Consumers Were Never Warned About Cancer Risk

The dangers of NDMA have been known for quite some time, yet consumers are stating that they were never warned about the presence of NDMA in Zantac® and the increased risk of cancer.

Now, lawsuits are being filed across the country against Sanofi and other Zantac® (ranitidine) manufacturers, arguing that the drugmakers knew or should have known about the health risks.

Millions of people have taken Zantac® for decades, so the number of people potentially affected is astronomical. Drugmakers have a legal responsibility to warn the public of any dangers associated with their products. When corporations fail to do so and innocent consumers get hurt, they deserve to be held accountable.
